Why you need powers of attorney
A power of attorney (POA) is a legal document that gives someone (known as an "attorney") the authority to act on your behalf. The power of attorney grants the attorney the legal right to make decisions, take actions, and handle financial, business, or personal affairs on your behalf.
It's important to choose your attorney as they will have significant decision-making power on your behalf. A power of attorney can be revoked by you at any time as long as you have the capacity to do so. An ordinary power of attorney cannot be used if you lose your mental faculties. Only an enduring power of attorney can be used if you have lost your mental faculties.
