The story behind DYOdocs
In a world where legal processes often feel daunting, time-consuming, and expensive, Auckland lawyer Ross Holmes set out to change the way New Zealanders handle their legal documents.
Ross has practised as a lawyer in New Zealand since 1973 — over fifty years of estate planning, trust law, and asset protection. He is a contributing author to the LexisNexis textbook Law of Trusts, and co-author with the late Professor Ron Crocombe of Southern Cook Islands Customary Law. He has spent decades drafting wills and trust documents for New Zealand families.
Frustrated with the inefficiency and cost of traditional document preparation, Ross envisioned a platform that would let people create high-quality legal documents on their own terms — while keeping the same drafting standard a New Zealand law firm would apply. The result is DYOdocs: an intelligent, plain-English document creation platform built on the templates Ross has refined over a career.
DYOdocs is a subsidiary of Ross Holmes Virtual Lawyers Limited (RHL). Where DYOdocs is self-service, RHL handles bespoke work — lawyer-drafted wills, EPAs, trust-based estate plans, and complex matters. Two channels, one drafting heritage.
